It was my great fortune to engage in grassroots empowerment projects in rural villages around the world. The experiences I had in different cultures were profound. So profound were they that for many years, try as I might, I could not express in words what had impacted me. After becoming a visual artist, I discovered that I had indelible visual memories and began what I called my “village” series. Upon completion of the series, I realized that Pilgrimage: Wonder, Encounter, Witness was the best way to summarize my experiences. Pilgrimage has been exhibited in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California. Prints and/or originals are available for showings upon request. The series is available at Fountainhead Gallery in Seattle, Washington. Paintings can be viewed on the Fountainhead Gallery website.
In 2010, as Pilgrimage toured throughout Oregon, I shared my village stories. People encouraged me to put images and stories together in a book. The book, including maps and photographs as well as paintings and stories was published in 2011.
