Africa, and specifically East Africa, is the birthplace of Homo Sapiens. Most people have heard of Lucy, a full skeleton of one of the precursors to Homo Sapiens. Lucy was found in the Rift Valley in contemporary Ethiopia. A great deal of archeological and genetic research have followed Lucy’s discovery. While other early forms of Homo Erectus continue to be found in places such as South Africa and Morocco, genetic evidence reveals that all humans on earth are descendants of one woman in East Africa, Mitochondrial Eve. The Rift Valley of East Africa is our home.
